Postpartum Must Haves

Baby showers are a fun rite of passage for new mamas. Making your registry and dreaming with your sweetheart about what life with your new baby will be like is such sweet time. Sometimes, in all the cute baby onesies and new gear, we forget to prepare for postpartum. Our bodies go through some trauma and we need to give them the space to heal. If you have a vaginal delivery you may find things you didn't know you needed to recover from birth. Here are some very useful things to have ready in your house:

  • Padsicles - frozen maxi pads with witch hazel and Aloe vera. Make a bunch and freeze them individually wrapped in foil and store all together in a freezer ziplock.

  • Adult diapers- a life saver.

  • A squatty potty or just a step stool. To allow your bowel movements to flow out without having to push as much. Your body will thank you. My favorite is a foldable step stool from Amazon.

  • Sitz bath to relieve hemorrhoid pain.

  • Peri bottle. The hospital will give you one but you can also buy one with an angled spout. Use with warm water.

  • Dermaplast spray. The hospital will give you some but you may want more.

  • Schedule a therapy session before you give birth and keep a recurring appointment every other week, or at least every month, for a minimum of six months postpartum. Your mental health is one of the most important and most forgotten things postpartum. If you do not already have a therapist there are two I recommend!
